Intelligent Worship -- Know God -- Part 3

Our first reference for knowing God comes from King David who is giving his son Solomon wise advice.

1 Chronicles 28:9
“And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever."

The first sage piece of advice the incumbent king gives to the incoming king is to Know God. It is not enough to know God Is, we must also seek Who He Is and Know how God wants to be known.

The second reference is in Psalms and could very well have been written by David, as well. The author lies in obscurity as not all psalms are written by David. But the wisdom proffered remains just as true today as it did thousands of years ago.

Psalm 100:3
Know you that the LORD He is God: it is He that has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.

As the LORD God told Moses when He first called him into service, His name Is IAMTHATIAM. God created all people everywhere for Himself. Unfortunately not all people everywhere choose God as their God. God creates because He loves, especially people. We don't create ourselves: all life comes from God. Whether we have been created in the womb or the lab.

We are His sheep and He Is Our Shepherd. David penned in Psalm 23:1 "The LORD Is My Shepherd." And Jesus stated in John 10:11 "“I am the good Shepherd. The good Shepherd gives His life for the sheep."

Our last reference is in John 17:3, Jesus says, "And this is life eternal, that they might know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent."

While many people, even Biblical scholars, consider Matthew 6:9-13 to be The Lord's Prayer, this passage is an example of how to pray that Jesus gave to His disciples and other followers during His sermon on the mount. However, the prayer Jesus Himself prays in the presence of His disciples just before He is arrested is what I consider to be the Lord's prayer, for He prayed for a people not yet born whom God would give Him and that would become born again through the ministry of His disciples. He prayed for me. And He prayed for you.

Do you know the only True God? Have you believed yet that there is only One True God and that He loves you? These questions can only be answered by your heart.

Intelligent Worship -- Seek God -- Part 2

Now that we recognize the Authority of the One True God, we earnestly desire to know Him better, so we Seek Him out, craving with all our hearts to hear His voice more clearly, that we may understand His Word more readily.

Isaiah 55:6
Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.
Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Luke 11:9-10
So I tell you: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

In Isaiah 55 it is the Lord God Who is speaking. From verse one all the way through, we read and hear the Lord God speaking to us: from the promise to the warning to the reward.
The Lord God will not always be found for one day He will not only pull His church from the face of the earth, but His Holy Spirit will leave, too. He will be sought by many who waited to long to surrender their hearts and their decision to believe in Him will be at the cost of their lives.
Revelation 14:14-20
They who do not take the mark of the beast will be made to suffer and be killed for their decision. Many will refuse to take it and not still not believe the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ. But those people who do believe will be added to the growing list of martyrs whose names are written in the Book of Life (Revelation 17:6).

You know, once you start reading Revelation it's really hard to stop. Seeking the Lord is fulfilling to the heart and the spirit of me, as it surely and hopefully is to you, too.

David wrote in Psalm 34:8 "Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!" To 'taste' here means 'to perceive, to know, to examine by tasting' in small quantities at a time to the goodness of the Lord.

Synonyms for 'taste': Perceive, Discern, Savor (upon the {spiritual} tongue); Understanding, Desire, Heart; Appreciate, Have Knowledge Of.

When I seek God, I want to know more than I already know. I started studying deeply before I became a minister of the Word. Just reading my Bible every day wasn't enough: I had to know, I craved the meat of the Word because I was growing up in Him exponentially. I still am. Some days I run, some days I walk, but every day I am in the Word. It is as much a part of me as breathing is.

Philippians 1:20-21
I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have complete boldness so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. or to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

Intelligent Worship -- One God -- Part 1

Before we can worship God we have to recognize that there is but One God and that God is the God of the Holy Bible. He is the God of all creation: the heavens: the stars, the moons, the planets, the suns, the galaxies, the black holes, the comets, the milky way, the asteroids and every other thing up in the universes. God is the God of the earth and everything in it, on it, under it, above it; including people.

Genesis 1 and 2 tell us in some detail exactly how our planet came about and where we, as people, originate. And why.

Recognizing that God Is, we also come to the logical and reasonable conclusion that there is only One God, as His Word says.

Exodus 34:14
For you must not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

Deuteronomy 4:39
Know therefore this day and take to heart that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other.

1 Corinthians 8:6
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by Him.

Ephesians 4:4-6
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

In addition to these listed there are so many more Bible passages declaring not only that there is One God but WHO GOD IS. One must merely set aside some time each day to read The Word of God. And when merely reading is no longer enough, we will find ourselves seeking God's Wisdom for understanding what we're reading, digging deeper into His Word to find nuggets of wisdom to apply to our lives.

Plus, thoughtful prayer times must be initiated. It is impossible to know God deeper without knowing what His voice sounds like in your heart.

Intelligent Worship Series -- Intro

Intelligent Worship brings us into the presence of God. There are 12 parts to this series, plus this introduction.

What do we see when we enter the presence of God? John, in the Spirit, saw an emerald rainbow around the throne of God. Emeralds come in just about every color known, so while many envision a green bow around the throne, I see so much more.

--John heard a voice like a trumpet speak to him.
Revelation 4:1
After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
--John saw a throne and someone sitting on it.
Revelation 4:2
And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
--John saw the radiance and could only describe what he saw in colors he knew.
Revelation 4:3
And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald

Ezekiel saw so much when he entered the eternal presence of God that I can only list a couple of them here.
--Ezekiel was always in the presence of God, for the Word came to him.
Ezekiel 1:3
The Word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him.
--Ezekiel saw a sapphire throne.
Ezekiel 10:1
Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.

--Isaiah saw the Lord on His throne.
Isaiah 6:1
In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
Isaiah saw and heard the worshiping seraphim and instantly repented.
Isaiah 6:2-6
--Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord.
Isaiah 6:8
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

--Daniel saw the Ancient of Days and the Son of Man together.
Daniel 7:9-14

Many are the wondrous things to see in the presence of God, not the least of which is the Lord God Himself! Intelligent worship brings us into the presence of God, but it won't keep us there. For there is much work to be done before our day arrives to be there permanently with Him.

Until then we will read and re-read all the gloriousness of being in God's presence.
Adam had it, then he lost it. That can happen to us, too, if we're not careful. Let us watch and pray, therefore, that our testimony may be perfect when we see God.

Lithos -- Stumblingstone

LITHOS

(pronounced lee'-thos)

STUMBLINGSTONE

Romans 9:33
As it is written: "Behold, I lay in Sion a Stumblingstone and Rock of Offense, and whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame."

 Isaiah 8:14
And He will be a sanctuary--but to both houses of Israel a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, to the dwellers of Jerusalem a trap and a snare.
Isaiah 28:16
So this is what the Lord GOD says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; the one who believes will never be shaken."
Matthew 21:42
Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?
Psalm 118:22
The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.
1 Peter 2:6
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

As born again believers we have nothing to be ashamed of, nor confounded (confused) over. We are able to believe because the Holy Spirit of God has stirred within us a desire to believe. And we choose to listen to Him, believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and give our hearts, our lives and everything about us to Him; following Him in our everyday life, choosing to submit to His will in every decision, big or small.
We are not to hide our faith in Jesus Christ, nor are we to flaunt it with a 'holier than thou' stance. We are overjoyed to be included in God's family and serve Him in His kingdom. And we strive to share this joy we have in Him with others which usually, if we are following the Spirit's leading, leads us into both joy (that another person has accepted Christ) and suffering (because we are coming under attack (mocking, persecution) for sharing our faith).
It is Jesus Christ and Him crucified and resurrected that throws some folks off, making it harder for them to believe. We must remember that at one time we, too, were not believers. And remember what it took to get us to turn our hearts to God. Never stop praying for someone else, no matter how long it takes for them to turn their hearts to God. Never speak against another person, nor gossip about them. For this not only taints your testimony, but negates your relationship with God and people. Why would anyone want to be a Christian like that when the world system behaves in much the same way?
Remember that the Cornerstone of our faith is Jesus Christ. The Word says to lay no other foundation (1 Corinthians 3:11 "For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."). And that everything built on that Foundation will be judged by God. Therefore, we must build with wisdom and use only the building materials which the Spirit has given us to build with.

Philippians 4:4-9
4) Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
5) Let your gentleness be apparent to all. The Lord is near.
6) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
7) And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8) Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.
9) And what you have learned and have received and have heard and have seen in me, practice these things. And the God of peace will be with you.

Psalm 23 As Read To Another

How I read Psalm 23 to my Mother as she lay dying of leukemia. Having chosen to fight it at the onset, there came a time when no fight was left in her. Though she was semi-conscious when we arrived, she still had some of her five senses left. She didn't like to be touched; I believe it caused her pain. But some touch was necessary as she needed to be moved around at times.
She could taste and indicate thirst (by sticking her tongue out a little bit). Since taste and smell are linked physiologically I believe she also retained her sense of smell. And she could hear. So we could talk to her: tell her we loved her, read Scriptures to her, sing to her. My sisters were playing LPs and CDs when we arrived at my sister's house. Our Mom loved her gospel music, especially her favorite singers: Jack Greene, Barbara Mandrell, Jim Reeves.
I read various Scriptures to her when it was my turn to sit by her bedside and visit with her.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Psalm 27:1, 4
Revelation 22:1-5
Her very most favorite verse passage was Ephesians 2:8-10
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
She loved reading about the end times and what happens afterwards. She was both excited about the coming events and fearful for her family members who weren't saved yet. That's why she chose to fight the leukemia: so she could fight for her family's salvation by continuing to share the gospel which she loved so much.
Matthew 24:27-36
And lastly, Psalm 23.
1. The Lord Is your Shepherd (your Leader, your Guide, your Protector),
You shall not want  (The Lord Is your Provider).
2. He makes you to lie down in green pastures; He leads you beside still waters.
3. He restores your soul: He has led you in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
4. Yes, even though you have walked through the valley of the shadow of death, you feared no evil, for the Lord is with you: His rod (of protection) and His staff (of guidance) comfort you.
5. He prepares a table for you in the presence of your enemies: He anoints your head with oil, your cup runs over.
6. Surely goodness and mercy have followed you all the days of your life: and now you will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

The Lord Is -- June

PATER PHOS
(pronounced pat-ayr {air} foce)

FATHER OF LIGHTS

James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of Lights, with Whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

God Creates Light:
Genesis 1:3
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Psalm 33:6
By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the stars by the breath of His mouth.

God Never Changes:
Variableness: change, mutation, fickleness
This verse in James is the only time this word 'variableness' is used.
Psalm 102:27
But You remain the same, and Your years will never end.
Daniel 2:22
He reveals the deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him.

God Gives Good Gifts & Perfect Gifts:
Good: describes what originates from  God
Psalm 139
Perfect: mature - going through the necessary changes to reach the end goal
2 Corinthians 3:18
And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.

For the second and third Sundays of this month I used two previous Names as fill-ins as I was not at my computer for awhile.

TELEIOTES
(pronounced tel-ah'-ee-tee-os)
THE AUTHOR OF ETERNAL SALVATION

Hebrews 5:8-9
Though he was God's Son, He learned obedience through what He suffered. And being made perfect, He became the Author of Eternal Salvation unto all who obey Him.

(pronounced yeh-ho-vaw')
THE LORD IS MY LIGHT

Psalm 27:1
The LORD is my Light and my Salvation: whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

But now I am once more ensconced at my desk, ready to take on new tasks and overcome new obstacles.

When We All Get To Heaven

For those of you that don't already know, my Mother passed away on June 13 from leukemia. She was diagnosed in January and chose to fight until she had no fight left in her. I am not sad. I know where she is. She's at Jesus' feet basking in His glory!
The song "When We All Get To Heaven" takes on greater meaning when someone you love gets there before you do. And while she's not the first one I've loved and lost here, nor is she the last, she's my Mother. And I love her.
So if I have any crying left to do, it's for myself. I won't get to hear her voice any more. I won't get to hear her laughter here any more. I won't get to text her every night and anticipate her responses. I won't get to visit her any more. But that's okay.
Because as long as I remain in Christ and Christ remains in me, my Mother is also near because she was a born again believer as well. She lives in Christ Jesus and He lives in her. I live in Christ Jesus and He lives in me. No, she isn't here. She's only "sleeping in Christ".
     1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
  • Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who are without hope.
  • For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.
  • For this we say to you by the Word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.
  • For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
  • Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so shall we ever be with the Lord.
  • Therefore encourage one another with these words.
We sang two of her favorite songs at her beautiful Memorial Service:
and

Every one who loves the Scriptures has a favorite verse. My Mother was no exception. She loved Ephesians 2:8-10.
  • For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
  • Not of works, lest any man should boast.
  • For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God has before ordained (prepared) that we should walk in them.
And she was fascinated with the last days leading up to Christ's return.

In addition to her nightly Bible reading, she was also reading Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins' Are We Living In The End Times prophecy research book.
She loved the book of Revelations and had read it several times in the last year or so. But it was Matthew 24:27-36 that grabbed ahold of her prayer life. She was at the same time both excited about the coming events and fearful for her family members who had not yet accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of their lives.

That's why she chose to fight the cancer, even though it took everything she had. She wanted her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren to be with her and Jesus. The fields of labor into which God had lastly placed her needed lots of loving attention. But in the end it was God's will to bring her into her heavenly home. It was not her lot to beat the cancer, but to overcome it. But her prayers will not go unanswered. As long as someone answers the call to salvation which God the Father has proffered through God the Son by the power of God the Holy Spirit.
Believe God. Trust in God. Obey God's Word. Love God's people. Feed God's sheep. Water God's planting. Harvest God's fields. And then go home to God's home.

The KJV of the Bible was her favorite, so that version of Matthew 24:27-36 is what I am using.
  •  For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
  • For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
  • Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
  • And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
  • And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
  • Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
  • So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
  • Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
  • Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
  • But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
I know this passage filled her with anticipation because she sent it to me twice. At a later date I will write about our chat life. I never deleted it, so I have a couple years worth of Scripture sharing to write out. Until then.

I Go -- Spirit Song

 I GO (for Gloria Brostowski)
June 21-23, 1995 Matthew 6:20; John 14:1-2; Revelation 3:20

In my Father’s house are many mansions,
Many treasures, Many crowns.
I go to prepare a place for you.

-Chorus-
I go to prepare a place for you.
When you come home,
I’ll be waiting there, too.
I’ll have My hands outstretched to welcome you,
I go to prepare a place for you.

Truly the harvest is plenty, but laborers they are few.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations. I go.
-Chorus-
I go to prepare a place for you.
When you come home,
I’ll be waiting there, too.
I’ll have My hands outstretched to welcome you,
I go to prepare a place for you.

The Holy Spirit is now among us; We are ready and
We are here To reap the harvest of the nations.
We go.

-Chorus-
I go to prepare a place for you.
When you come home,
I’ll be waiting there, too.
I’ll have My hands outstretched to welcome you,
I go to prepare a place for you.

*When I lived in Lake Geneva, one of the churches I became attached to was the local Assembly of God Church. This was written for my pastor's wife, Gloria.
This is one of my Just For You songs. There are a few.

Today's Word -- Without Ceasing

 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Pray without ceasing.

Ephesians 6:18
With all prayer and petition pray [with specific requests] at all times [on every occasion and in every season] in the Spirit, and with this in view, stay alert with all perseverance and petition [interceding in prayer] for all God’s people.

Without Ceasing: with no interval in between, incessantly, without remission

Luke 18:1-8 tells us of the persistent widow who constantly brought her appeal for justice to the local judge who finally gave in and granted her what she asked for.

We can turn to Daniel 6:10 and see that even though the law was now against him, this did not stop him from praying to God as he had always done before.

(10) Now when Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house, where the windows of his upper room opened toward Jerusalem, and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

Romans 8:26
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.

Philippians 4:6
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Matthew 26:41
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

When our hearts seem too full to speak the words we cannot say, the Spirit of God speaks for us. Yet, we will keep watch through the night and pray with God as long as we are needed.

Know this, that until God calls each of us home, we are needed intercessors, praying for one another's needs. And even after we are called home, God will still honor the prayers we prayed before we left this world for our heavenly home.

Today's Word -- Judgment Begins Here

If you are in a church where your preacher says it is okay to sin against God and still make it to heaven, you need to flee that church. Where unrighteousness is preached, it is also practiced. God is coming for a holy church, not a good enough church.

1 Peter 4:16-18

{16} But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear that name. {17} For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God? {18} And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”

Hebrews 2:2-4

{2} For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every transgression and disobedience received its just punishment, {3} how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? This salvation was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, {4} and was affirmed by God through signs, wonders, various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will.

According to Matthew Henry's Commentary, "When God brings great calamities and sore judgments upon whole nations, he generally begins with his own people." For example, in Isaiah 10:12 the Lord tells Isaiah that He will judge Mount Zion and Jerusalem before He judges the king of Assyria. In Jeremiah 25:29 the Lord tells Jeremiah that He is bringing disaster on the city that bears His name. And again in Ezekiel 9:6 the idolaters in the Lord's sanctuary will be the first slaughtered.

God is calling each one of us to be holy like He is holy. We are each responsible for receiving the salvation and spiritual cleanliness which God has given the believer through His only begotten Son Jesus Christ (Savior) and His Holy Spirit (Fire of God). Through the blood we are saved when we believe in the name of Jesus Christ.  Through His holy fire we are made pure: unblemished, untarnished, unstained.

I am responsible for believing God's Word. I am responsible for accepting the salvation He has proffered through His Son Jesus Christ. I am responsible for seeking the baptism of His Holy Spirit and obeying Him. I am responsible for living my life according to the Word of God. I am responsible for repenting daily for sins I (may) have committed against God. For tomorrow is not promised to anyone, even God's people. So I must be always ready to meet Him. It is less stressful to be ready than it is to worry about being ready!

I am responsible for sharing the gospel with everyone I meet. I am responsible for living a life that glorifies God. And I am responsible for attending a church where the full gospel, the true Word of God, is preached, that I may hear with my ears and my heart the integrity of God's Holy Word. I am responsible for Who I worship and how I worship Him.

I am responsible for my thoughts, my words, my actions. These must align with the Word of God that He might be glorified in me and through me.

I am responsible for how I will be judged. Will I be found lacking? I hope not. Will I be ready? I hope so.
