Psalm 118:14

The LORD is my Strength and my Song, and He has become my Salvation.

Song: praise

From the Hebrew word 'zimrah' (pronounce zim-rawth'). 

Not much definition given here except to cross reference this word zimrah with zimrah (zim-raw'), which is melody, song of praise to Yah (God). This word zimrah has its roots in 'zamar' (zaw-mar'): to make music in praise of God; to make music accompanied by the voice; to celebrate in song and music. 

I sing, I will sing while playing an instrument.

THE SONG OF HEAVEN IS SALVATION

Isaiah 12:2 "Behold, God is my Salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my Strength and my Song; He also has become my Salvation."

Revelation 5:12 "Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing."

THE SONG OF HEAVEN IS PRAISE

Jeremiah 17:14

Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for You are my Praise.

Revelation 5:13

And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power forever and ever!”

THE SONG OF HEAVEN IS SUNG BY UNTOLD NUMBERS

Psalm 69:34 "Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them."

Revelation 5:11 "Then I looked, and I heard the voices of many angels and living creatures and elders encircling the throne, and their number was myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands."

THE SONG OF HEAVEN IS JOY 

Isaiah 44:23 "Sing for joy, O heavens, for the LORD has done this; shout aloud, O depths of the earth. Break forth in song, O mountains, you forests and all your trees. For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and revealed His glory in Israel."

John 15:11 "These things have I spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."

Romans 15:13 "Now the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost."

THE SONG OF HEAVEN IS WORSHIPED WITH SONGS OF PRAISE

Psalm 28:7 "The LORD is my Strength and my Shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him."

Psalm 40:3 "He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD."

Psalm 104:1-3  "Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, You are very great; You are clothed with honour and majesty. You wrap  Yourself in light as with a garment; You stretch out the heavens like a tent, You lay out the rafters of Your home in the rain clouds. You make the clouds Your chariot; You ride upon the wings of the wind."

John 4:23, 24 "But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him. God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”

Revelation 4:8 "And each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around and within. Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”

THE LORD IS MY SONG is one of His many names. More than an adjective of His character, we declare on an individual basis Who God is to us, to me. THE LORD IS MY SONG. MY SONG. I have reason to rejoice, for THE LORD IS MY SALVATION: He has saved me with HIMSELF. THE LORD IS MY REDEEMER, He has redeemed me from the bondage of sin. THE LORD IS MY PRAISE, for He is my ALL IN ALL. THE LORD IS MY ROCK, on Him I build my hopes; in Him I lay a foundation of faith, upon which my hope is built. 

THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH, in Him I can do anything He calls me, asks me, to do. THE LORD IS MY LIGHT, for I see not without His Light shining in me and through me. THE LORD IS MY LIFE: without Him I am nothing. 

THE SONG OF HEAVEN is a personal God. He desires our hearts, for He calls us to Him. Sometimes when we are very young (1 Samuel 3:1, 4; 2 Chronicles 34:1; Jeremiah 1:4-10), God calls us to serve Him. He desires our love, our worship, ourselves. THE SONG OF HEAVEN IS MY HALLELUJAH, my SONG of PRAISE to my GOD. For God not only IS my Salvation, He provided me a SAVIOR!

When do I praise THE SONG OF HEAVEN? At all times (Psalm 34:1), in all seasons  (Ecclesiastes 3:1). When I am happy, when I am sad I praise Him. When I rejoice, when I grieve I praise Him. When I am surrounded by my enemies, when I am in the midst of His congregation I praise Him. When I am weak, when I overcome obstacles I praise Him. When I fail, when I succeed I praise Him. In the night, in the day I praise Him. When I am in pain, when I am healed I praise Him. For the Scriptures, the Word, tells us to "Give thanks at all times" 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

His Song: worship song, lyrics with musical instruments

From the Hebrew word 'shiyr' (pronounced sheer)

Used 90 times in the Old Testament

There are many styles of music making, even in the hearts of God's people. Music is from God and music given back to God glorifies God when it comes from deep within a worshipful heart. Who defines what a worshipful heart is? God, of course. For only God can see a person's heart; therefore, only God can determine whether or not the song being sung belongs to Him. Who are we to judge which songs are worthy to sing or write; which instruments can be used to make music?

But His Song, His Song is the song we sing when we declare His Name, when we proclaim His deliverance; when we testify of His saving Grace. His Song is the song we write when the Spirit comes upon us and moves us to write words which come from our hearts and not just our minds. Sometimes His Songs are written by one person, sometimes His Songs  are created on a collaborative basis. I've done both. 

This word 'shiyr' could refer to both His Song and His Singers, His Choir of Worshippers. God pours Himself into us (Romans 5:5) through His Holy Spirit and we shout out, cry out, sing aloud with everything within us back to Him. 

What a mighty God we serve! A God who looked on us and had compassion towards us, so much so that He took His Word, as only God can do, and wrapped it in flesh and bone; and called It "Jesus" because this Word is the Word of Salvation: 

Matthew 1:21 "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”

This HOLY JESUS is why we sing the songs we write about Him. This HOLY GOD is why we sing the songs we write for Him. This HOLY SPIRIT is why we welcome the presence of the LORD into our hearts, our lives, our churches, our sanctuaries. 

I love to sing. I love to write. But it is God who creates His Songs in me. It is God who receives glory and honor and praise from me. There is no other Name worth worshiping. 

No other Name died for us. No other Name took our sins upon Himself and became sin for us. No other Name could ever love us as much as God loves us. No other Name has God honored by raising Him up and setting this JESUS on high! His Songs resound throughout the whole world, though many have tried, and still try, to silence His Songs. But His Name will prevail and overcome. 

Dear God,

Thank You for the gift of music. Thank You for creating it and giving it to us. Thank You for giving us Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ, for washing my sins away through the blood of Your Lamb, as John stated. Thank You for forgiving me and making me holy by the power of Your Holy Spirit. 

You are eternal, God. You are my God forever and ever. I am Your child, Your servant, Your friend. Continue to guide me and lead me through Your Word. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit that I might overflow and bless those around me. 

May they see this Name, JESUS, when they see me and know that You are near. Open the eyes of the blind that they may see You. Tender the hardened hearts and break them open for You. Whatever it takes. 

In Jesus' Priceless Name, I pray,
