Blessed Are The Persecuted For Righteousness' Sake
Matthew 5:10
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of God.
Persecuted can be anything from being made fun of for choosing Christ over the pleasures this world offers to actually being killed for being a Christian, a Christ-follower. The pain and agony of being ignored for the sake of the gospel is minor compared to the pain and agony of dying without knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Righteousness' sake is the knowledge that Jesus Christ is our Righteousness. [1 Corinthians 1:22-31]. What the world deems foolishness, crazy, intolerant and hateful is that which God has chosen to save those who believe in His Son for their salvation.
The Righteousness From God
Philippians 3:7-9
7. But whatever was gain to me I count as loss for the sake of Christ.
8. More than that, I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish (dung, refuse, dregs), that I may gain Christ
9. and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, The Righteousness from God on the basis of faith.
2 Corinthians 5:21
God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become The Righteousness of God.
Romans 3:21-24
21. But now, apart from the law, The Righteousness of God has been revealed, as attested by the Law and the Prophets.
22. And This Righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction
23. for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24. and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
As Paul wrote, " For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek (Gentile/Non-Jew), For the gospel reveals The Righteousness of God that comes by faith from start to finish, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” [Romans 1:16,17]
