Living In the Moment

Watched a show the other night about a guy who raised up wild turkeys from the egg for about 18 months. He became the parent, the guide and the student. One thing he said stuck in my head, "Turkeys live in the moment. They do not think about the next moment, nor even about tomorrow. They just live in the moment."

And I was wondering when we stopped praying in the moment. Whatever happened to just spending a moment, a whole minute, with God. A whole hour, day even with The One Who Gives us moments to live in?

If we wait until we go to church to pray at the altar, we have missed so many moments we could have lived in with God. Leave your Bible open near where you spend most of your time sitting and discover how many more moments you can spend with God.

Pretty soon, you know, your Bible could look like this:

Moments lived in with God tend to reveal a much loved Bible:
it's pages are falling out from constant turning,
the binding is not attached any more,
the cover may be ripped from folding and bending,
the ribbons may have shredded or been lost.
But the words have been applied to the heart,
fingerprints and teardrops have laminated the pages,
dates and notes highlight verses,
chapter after chapter has been read and re-read.

These are moments we live in.

Do you live for the moment when you pray? Or has your mind wandered into your own little world? If you find yourself thinking about something else when you should be focused on God, then you have stolen from God and need to seek His forgiveness for your sin. Here He is trying to hear you or tell you something and yet, you have turned your ear away.

And when the preacher gives the message from The Word? Where are you? Are you thinking about lunch? The big game? How you're gonna pay your bills? Why you have to do all the work and no one else helps? You have not only wasted the moment, you have ignored God's outstretched hand, attempting to give you the blessing He had for you today.

The worship leader tries to get your attention and bring you into a moment of worship to God. But you sit like a rock on the coastal shores, letting her voice wash over you, but not change you. Your hands in your lap, your mouth shut, your lips pursed in thought. But not thoughts of God and how to please Him. Not thoughts of God, nor delighting in Him. You have missed the moment and the moment is gone.

God wants you to worship Him His way. God wants you to enjoy life in the moment His way. God wants you to hear His Word in His Tabernacle His way. There is no other way with God but God's Way.

Choose this moment to be with God. Repent of your evil ways and surrender your heart to God's Way. Live in God's Will, God's Word and God's Way. It is the only way to enjoy Living in the Moment.

Gotta go. Been great sharing this moment with you.
