LOVE'S ULTIMATE SACRIFICE
1 John 4:10
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Propitiation in the Bible is used twice (1 John 2:2 & 1 John 4:10) and means: atoning sacrifice to appease a holy God whose very presence and name is Holy and, thus, demands a holy people.
But we cannot make ourselves clean enough nor holy enough to be in God's presence. We needed Someone to do this for us. So God sent His one and only Son, whose ultimate purpose was to die on the cross with the weight of the sins of the whole world laid upon Him; to take our place and our punishment for sin.
No matter how much we love God it is not enough to save our souls.
No matter how much God loves us it is not enough to save our souls.
We must believe that Jesus Christ IS God's one and only Son, that Christ did die on the cross in our stead, that He conquered death, hell and the grave by walking out of the tomb (leaving it empty) and into the eternal presence of God His Holy Father. That's faith. My faith.
